Description
Chesebro’ crest Cagle crest

This tree, dedicated to William Chesebrough who was the first European settler of what is now Stonington, CT in 1649, not only contains his descendants and collateral families and their ancestors, but also the ancestors of the children of Larry and Nancy (Cagle) Chesebro’, and the ancestors of the children of Larry and Nancy Chesebro’s siblings.

William Chesebrough (recorded "Cheesbrough" in England), the immigrant of proven English ancestry, is a 10th great-grandfather of our grandchildren. Sarah Chesebrough, whose name stands number 78 on the roll of the First Church of Boston, Massachusetts, was a passenger with William on the ship, "Arbella", and is thought to have been his mother. His wife, Anna and three surviving children of the fifteen that had been born to him including the youngest, Nathaniel, an infant in arms, came with him in the same company.

We believe William's father was William Cheesbrough II married to Sarah (William's mother is Sarah as recorded on the Boston church rolls) and the next ancestral generation is William Cheesbrough I married to Margaret Jenkinson. William I and Margaret are confirmed in our immigrant William's county in England and with the overwhelming use of the given name "William", they probably are his ancestral family!

The "Arbella", a ship of three hundred and fifty tons, whereof Captain Peter Milborne was master, received its name "in honour of the Lady Arbella" wife of Isaac Johnson, Esq., one of the more prominent personages among the passengers. This ship was one of a fleet of fourteen vessels, the Winthrop Fleet, with eight hundred and forty passengers, comprising the Massachusetts Bay Colony. It set sail from Cowes, Isle of Wight, on Tuesday, March 30, 1630, and was termed the 'Admiral' of the fleet, for the reason partly, that it was the staunchest and best furnished of the vessels, and partly perhaps, as Savage in his notes in Winthrop's Journal suggests, that it was owned by and carried "the principal people" of the Colony, including Johnson, Winthrop, Coddington, Dudley, Bradstreet and Saltonstall with their respective families among others.

More than 30 spelling variations of William Chesebrough's descendants in actual use and as found in church, school, town, or state records include:
Cheasbro, Cheasbrough, Cheasebro, Cheesboro, Cheesboro', Cheesborough, Cheesbro, Cheesbro, Chees-bro, Cheesbrook, Cheesbrough, Cheeseboro, Cheeseborough, Cheesebrew, Cheesebro, Cheesebro', Cheesebrough, Cheesebrow, Cheezebrough, Cheezeborough, Chesboro, Chesborough, Chesbro, Chesbrough, Chesbrow, Cheseboro, Cheseboro', Cheseborough, Chesebro, Chesebro', Chesebrooke, Chesebrough, Chesebrugh, and Chessbruck.

Not only are ALL DESCENDANTS of the immigrant William Chesebrough included in this Tree but our Royal, Magna Charta Sureties, Mayflower, Jamestown, and Adam and Eve ancestors are also included as they are in our complete database Tree. Start with a search and pedigree display of our direct ancestor, Anne Marbury, to trace these ancestors.

NOTE:
God, creator of Adam and Eve, is about 120 generations in the past. Although TNG will produce an unlimited generation Ahnentafel chart, server timeouts will probably prevent displaying all generations because the more current generations contain large amounts of data. There are many paths to display the pedigree to God. But this is our recommendation:
* Start with Anne Marbury's individual page. Select a 36 generation Pedigree in Ahnentafel format.
* From the browser toolbar, search for and highlight "Pybba, Pybba of Mercia".
* On Pybba's individual page, select a 70 generation Pedigree in Ahnentafel format.
